How Scottish Local Authorities are spending £30M in ‘Spaces for People’ funding

We are starting to see some v. small changes in how transportation is changing in Covid-19 Scotland thanks to Spaces for People. What we don’t know (yet) is how much of the funding is going to benefit pedestrians/walkers.

We are starting to see some v. small changes in how transportation is changing in Covid-19 Scotland.

Spaces for People is a temporary infrastructure programme in Scotland which offers funding and support to make it safer for people who choose to walk, cycle or wheel for essential trips and exercise during Covid-19.

Spaces for People is being delivered by Sustrans on behalf of the Scottish Government. There is a good overview of what’s being done for cycling at Space for Distancing: What is your council doing?

What we need now is a review of how much of the funding is going to benefit pedestrians/walkers.

The bulk of the initial award went to Edinburgh, who got £5M. You can see the phenomenal number of comments from Edinburgh residents on how this funding should be spent at https://edinburghspacesforpeople.commonplace.is
